Westward Bound Day 23: North Rim Grand Canyon May 26, 2013

Arriving just before lunch in Page, AZ, gave us time to disconnect the camper, set up, have lunch and then strike our for the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We chose Page as our home-base because of the central location between the North Rim, Zion National Park, and Bryce Canyon National Park. To our disappointment, our more southwest rout to the Canyon was closed and we had to detour up into Utah and then back down to the Rim. While this made for some extra long and unplanned driving, we made the best of it.
It was no time before we briefly crossed into Utah and were heading back down to the Rim.

The pictures below are some of the site we saw along the way. It was so hard to pick out of the boocoodles of pictures I took. I hope I don't bore you with these.

Can you image living at the base of this formation. It always amazed me how homes would be nestled in.
We're here!
A herd of beefalo that reside at the National Park. They are the descendants of a cross-breeding project from back in the day. From what we were told this was a failed money-making project but these animals have a happy home here in the park, much to our enjoyment.

VIEWS OF THE GRAND CANYON

A very nice Japanese gentlemen took our picture for us. It was soooooooo windy out there!

I think this is my favorite shot on this day. That is Richard to your left. I used my panorama setting to capture the majesty of the area. We live in such a beautiful and diverse country. So glad that we finally made it here to see it for ourselves!

It was late when we finally left the park, so late in fact that we tried to find a place to stay in town to avoid the drive back to Page. Alas, it was Memorial Day weekend and no rooms were to be had (other than one very cheesy one with the key stuck in the door). So we filled up with coffee at the local McDonalds and headed back down to Page, arriving safely about 11pm. We headed to bed so we could get up early the next day for our trip back up to Utah. Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon...here we come!
